The new Bob Shop Windows Phone 8 app gives shoppers a full buying experience, with a fresh interface, especially adapted to the Windows Phone 8 OS.

UPDATE: As of October 2016, Bob Shop is retiring its Windows Phone mobile shopping app.

(23 June 2014) South Africa’s online marketplace, bobshop, has once again extended its mobile offering with the release of an application for Nokia and other Windows Phone 8 OS based devices.

Over the last four years, Bob Shop has launched mobi sites suitable for feature and smartphones; an iOS app for iPhone; an Android app; a BlackBerry 10 app; and now, mid-2014, a Windows Phone 8 app.

The site’s new Windows Phone 8 app provides a full Bob Shop shopping experience plus a fresh and intuitive interface especially adapted to the Windows Phone 8 operating system. Users can search or browse through more than a million items listed on Bob Shop, place bids and orders, and manage their buying activity with ease.

“Since we started rolling out our mobile offerings in August 2010, we have seen a sharp increase in the number of visits and purchases from mobile devices. In less than a year, the gross value of merchandise bought via a mobile device has doubled, reaching almost 20% of all sales concluded on Bob Shop”, says Bob Shop CEO Jaco Jonker.

“The rapid growth of mobile purchasing has made it crucial for us to provide our customers with mobile ecommerce applications, so that they can enjoy the convenience of shopping from their preferred mobile device”, he adds, emphasising that businesses have to innovate vigorously in order to keep up with new technologies and the subsequent shift in customer behaviours and expectations.

He contributes a large part of the increase in the turnover Bob Shop has experienced over the past four years to the company’s early and consistent focus on mobile and says: “We want to bring our vast marketplace to every device that’s connected to the internet. Of course, this requires a lot of effort and innovation. It’s not just about transferring content but creating a native mobile experience per platform.”

To mark the launch of the Windows Phone 8 app, Bob Shop and Microsoft will be auctioning off on Bob Shop a Nokia Lumia 1020 bundle and an Xbox bundle. Both auctions will start from R1, without reserve, and last for one week.

Subsequently, a series of competitions with prizes, celebrating the release of Bob Shop’s newest mobile application, will also take place on the site.
