Samsung LED TVs

Samsung has introduced the slimmest HDTVs to date with its new collection of eco-friendly LED TVs which measure just about 1.2 inches at their thickest point. The LED TVs are available in sizes between 44 and 55 in, and the range is available in three series: 6000, 7000 and 8000.

LED Series 6 is the most basic series, and comes with four HDMI ports, virtual surround sound and, and the unique red “Touch of Colour” design.

LED Series 7 comes with four HDMI ports, 120Hz refresh, USB 2.0, wireless DLNA streaming support and the Yahoo! widget platform which provides access to YouTube, eBay auctions, Flickr and news, among other things.

LED Series 8 is the premium range and offers the Yahoo! widget platform, 240Hz refresh, AutoMotion blur-reduction, and the new “Touch of Colour” design with prism-light and chrome edging.

Technology

Unlike traditional LCD TVs which are backlit by Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (CCFL), Samsung LED TVs use white Light Emitting Diodes (LED) which creates rich, deep colour, jet blacks and crisp, bright whites. They offer far superior colour, clarity and contrast when compared with LCD displays, and the Enhancer Pro feature lets consumers enjoy a broader spectrum of colours. The ultra clear panel ensures perfect viewing even in imperfectly-lit environments by effectively allowing more light to pass through the screen and minimising the reflection off the screen. Picture settings are automatically optimised to deliver the best of two worlds – the brightness advantage of LCD TVs and the cinema-like quality of plasma screens.

Samsung LED TVs also offer endless entertainment and networking possibilities with the Internet@TV – Content Service which lets users access Yahoo!, You Tube and other web content from the TV using a either a wired or wireless Ethernet connection (which comes with the 7000 and 8000 series). The interface is widget based, and a scroll bar at the bottom of the screen allows for easy browsing. Thanks to the widget development kit, content providers can continue to provide new offerings; users thus benefit from programmes developed after the set has been purchased. The pre-loaded content library comes with games, pictures and recipes, among other things.

Design

Samsung’s spectacularly slim TVs are the result of a revolutionary new technology which places the LEDs on the sides of the screen instead of the back, resulting in amazingly slim and light  TVs which are easier to hang on the wall. The new wall-mount reduces the gap between the wall and the TV to 0.6-inches. The TVs with their gorgeous crystal design, inspired by the beauty of water droplets, are works of art in themselves.

Eco-friendliness

The LED range is particularly eco-friendly, with the use of dangerous chemicals in their manufacture considerably reduced, and up to 40% less power consumption than conventional LCD TVs of the same size. Importantly, this range also benefits from Samsung’s recycling programme.
