Tips to Utilise Every Centimeter of Your Garden Space

Do you want to make your garden or patio area beautiful, but have very limited space? Then this is the article for you. If you live in a townhouse with a small garden or just a patio, there are ways to make it work. We will explore five ways you can utilise your small space to create a beautiful green environment. Read on if you would like some tips!

1. Raised Beds

Use a table or butcher’s block or anything that looks similar and is high off the ground. The great thing about a raised bed is that it's a huge space saver. You can place all your little pot plants on top and your garden tools or accessories can be stored at the bottom. Not only will it save you space, it is also a great garden piece that will catch your eye and look beautiful.

2. Vertical Planters

Vertical planters make a statement and can save you lots of space. There are a few creative options you can use. The simplest option is to hang pots along a wall (this is a great idea if you don’t have a garden at all and just a little patio). Your second option is to build a vertical planter using a piece of wood. Create a border or paint it to add some colour, attach the brackets for each pot and then add your pots, easy peasy!

3. Use Your Ceiling

With limited space, utilising your ceiling is the perfect way to add plants to a space without having to use any surface area at all. You can use glass pots or containers (for a more modern look) or plastic pots in a net (if you are going for more of a boho look). You will obviously need to make some holes in your ceiling to add your new features, but it is all worth the work.

4. Use Items You Have Lying Around

If you have old pots lying around, use them. Place the pots in corners or spaces you don’t use (whether it is on a patio or in your little garden). Don’t worry if the pots don’t match; different colours, shapes, etc. can add a lot of character to your limited space. If you have a metal tub in your garage that you don’t use anymore, repurpose it. It has enough space to hold a number of beautiful plants and can make for an excellent talking piece. Do you have a step ladder you no longer use? Place pot plants along the steps of the ladder. You will be surprised at the huge impact this beautiful feature will make. Lastly, a shoe organiser is another creative way to showcase plants in a small space. It’s extremely easy! Simply hang it up and start adding plants to each shoe pocket: beautiful and effective. This may sound like an odd one, but if you happen to have wooden shutters you don't need, nail them to a wall as a feature and add small succulents and hard wearing plants into the little slots of the shutter.

5. Pallet Slots

If you have a space in your garden you wish to use for herbs and edible plants only, consider using pallets to create slots. The pieces of pallet will create a great divider so that you can utilise your space effectively and also easily distinguish between the different herbs, fruits and vegetables you have planted.
