The successor to the PlayStation 3 is here and it's creating quite the buzz among video-game enthusiasts. Read on to find out if the Sony PlayStation 4 (AKA PS4) is going to be your next purchase.

PS4 Specs Highlights

Despite its compact size, the PS4 is a mean little machine. It features 8GB DDR5 RAM, 500GB hard drive, and runs on an x86-64 Jaguar eight-core chip CPU. The graphics are driven by 1.84 TFLOP AMD Radeon and  about 50% more powerful compared to the Xbox One. The PS4 runs on the Orbis operating system and features two USB 3.0 ports. It uses Bluetooth 2.1 for its wireless DualShock 4 controllers and 802.11 b/g/n for WiFi.

What We Love about the PS4

Appearance: The PS4 is by far Sony's most beautiful video game console yet. With its angular, asymmetrical and sharp build, the compact PS4 is visually striking and looks like a DVD player rather than a video game console. It sports a glossy-matte finish and lies flat on its tummy.

Controller: The PS4's controller (DualShock4) is absolutely marvellous. Gone are the squishy, draggy controls of the PS3 which were difficult to manoeuvre for those with bigger hands. The new DualShock4 is much better designed - the sticks are farther apart compared to the PS3 and well-designed pits/grooves to keep your thumbs in place. Although the DualShock4 is a little bit heavier than its predecessor, it is way more comfortable to hold for prolonged periods of time.

Blu-ray: The PlayStation4 does double-duty as a Blu-ray player and has a ton of options when it comes to video streaming apps.

PS4 Games: We absolutely love the plethora of games available for the PlayStation4. Destiny, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Killzone Shadow Fall, Contrast, Watchdogs, Diablo III Ultimate Evil Edition and Thief are just some of the amazing games that you can play on the PS4. The line-up for upcoming games makes the PS4 even more irresistible: Minecraft, Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition, Fez, 1001 Spikes, War Thunder, LEGO: The Hobbit and Wolfenstein: The New Order are all soon going to be available for the PS4.

What Could Be Better about the PS4

Despite its numerous strengths, the PlayStation 4 is not without some minor drawbacks. We don't like the fact that PS3 games aren't compatible with the PS4. There's also no DLNA streaming or MP3 playback available as yet either. However, these are minor irritants as the gaming experience and stunning graphics quality on the PS4 make up for all that.

All in all, Sony's PlayStation 4 makes for an excellent gaming experience. The best part about the PS4, in our opinion, is its new DualShock4 controller that makes long hours of game-playing effortless!
