Asatsuki Chives are used in Japan in everyday cuisine to remove odor from fish and meat and give it a unique flavour.
This chive gives the flavour of chives, onion and garlic. The bulbs are more potent and are often referred to as fire onions. The flowers, lavender the pink colors, are used in salads and to flavor soups and stews. They are delicious fresh and in stir fries.
They are hardier than the normal chive, do not require special soils and can tolerate most weather conditions. If you have really cold winters, the leaves will die back but they will return in spring, more than ever.
