History:Each piece is individually made. No two are exactly the same because the mold is broken in the 'lost-wax' process . This method is very labor-intensive. The initial form is sculpted out of wax which is then dipped several times into very fine powdered black mud and allowed to harden, forming a clay casting around the mold. The clay is then heated until the wax melts and is poured out of its casting, leaving a hollow mold in the shape of the original sculpture. Finally, molten brass is poured into the casting replacing the old wax mold. Once cool, the cast is broken away from the brass; leaving a solid ornament The gold weights are made of brass and sculpted in many different designs. Older weights date 1400 to 1720 tend to be geometric; figurative shapes of animals or people date from 1720 to 1930
