A reclining Buddha is a statue that represents Buddha lying down and is a major iconographic and statuary pattern of Buddhism. It represents the historical Buddha during his last illness, about to enter the parinirvana]. He is lying on the right flank, his head resting on a cushion or relying on his right elbow, supporting his head with his hand. Left arm along the body.
Story: The giant Asurindarahu wanted to see the Buddha, but was reluctant to bow before him. The Buddha, while lying down, presented himself as much larger than the giant. He then showed him the realm of heaven with heavenly figures all larger than the giant. After all this, Asurindarahu, the giant, was humbled, and made his obeisance to the Buddha before leaving.
This statue is made from resin and is 41cms long and 18cms high. It weighs 2,521 kilos. In good vintage condition, there is a small chip to his left big toe.
