At Home in the Transvaal by Carey Hobson, Published: Ward & Downey, London, 1896
Late Victorian novel set in the Transvaal of President Kruger, in which the author professes to have no political motives, but she nevertheless takes a typically 'uitlander' view of the failings, as well as the few virtues of the Boers that people her story. She gives a good picture of their daily life and endeavours to show the effects of British imperialism that is ever a threat that hangs over their existence.
