14 stories.
...I began writing these stories after my family moved from Cato Manor in the fifties, when the district became the first victim of the National Party's notorious Group Areas Act.
Cato Manor got its name from George Cato, an English colonial who settled just outside Durban. The area was eventually settled by freed indentured labourers, some who worked for Cato. The labourers were imported from India in 1860 to work the sugar plantations of Natal.
...Although I have taken some poetic licence in the telling of these stories, they are based on the lives of the people who lived in Cato Manor and deal with actual experiences, such as the 1949 riots and an exorcism performed by my grandmother...
