Intriguing portrait of extraordinary people in their tribal state with historical record of the Ngqika and Gqunukwebe with clans of  Xhosa illus with color and black & white photos. The author also an anthropologist/author/photographer  grew up with the Red Blankets (as the rural Xhosa are known) on the family farm in the Ciskei region.  By speaking their language he gained unique insights into their customs, myths, rites & rituals and complex culture,  Also with illus beadwork costuming of the Xhosa of the former Ciskei
