Devonian epoch specimens from Morocco - 390 million years old
100% authentic straight horn squid fossils in matrix
Orthoceras ("straight horn") is a genus of extinct nautiloid cephalopod from Morocco, dating from the Devonian period, about 390 million years ago.
They were similar to today's squid, but with elongated shells that housed most of their bodies, that hunted for small fish and crustaceans.
These two piece of matrix have been hand polished to reveal the intricate Orthoceras patterns. The pieces are three dimensional and contain parts of one or more Orthoceras.
Total size of matrix pieces - The two are similarly sized at approximately 5.5cm x 9cm.
Orthoceras are a must have specimen for the fossil collector and they make great gifts too!
