BALL AND CLAW FEET:

Also known and claw-and-ball, this type of furniture foot looks similar to a birds claw clutching a ball. They are often carved entirely of wood.
The ball and claw foot, was introduced in the 1700s. The design of the ball and claw originated in the Orient (Almost all historical sources believe that the Ball & Claw design was derived from the Chinese: a dragon's claw grasping a crystal ball) and later circulated throughout Europe. Ball and Claw style of furniture was very popular during the Edwardian period (1900 to 1910). The style has been copied by subsequent furniture makers in many countries and modernized to suit more recent applications. Ball and claw feet are still popular to this day.
