A dainty keepsake box with a story to tell. Made by Aynsley in Fine English Bone China, this lidded oval trinket box showcases the English passion for Chinoiserie in the early-mid 20th century. The lid carries a striking cobalt transfer of a long-tailed bird part peacock, part phoenix perched amongst flowering branches. Its the kind of exotic-meets-English motif that potteries borrowed from Oriental design, popular between 1900 and the 1930s, then carried forward as a timeless decorative flourish.
The image is framed in a gold lustre mount with a textured edge, giving the piece a jewel-like presence. Measuring about 5 cm × 4 cm × 3 cm, its the sort of box that once graced a dressing table, holding rings, cufflinks, or tiny treasures, and still feels just right for that purpose today.
Condition is excellent: no chips, cracks, or crazing. Only the gentlest surface wear to the underside, consistent with age and handling. Whether you see a peacock, a phoenix, or both, this little box embodies the charm of English porcelain filtered through an oriental lens delicate, refined, and quietly glamorous.
