Pepper spray (Also colloquially spoken of 'mace') is an item containing a chemical compound (abbreviated as OC - oleoresin capsicum) that irritates the eyes to cause tears, pain, and temporary blindness used in policing, riot control, crowd control. Its inflammatory effects cause the eyes to close, taking away vision.

This temporary blindness also allows officers to more easily restrain subjects and permits people using pepper spray for self-defense an opportunity to incapacitate their attackers whilst simultaneously allowing for a window of opportunity to escape.

Although considered less than lethal, it has proven deadly in rare cases - therefore, handle OC spray with respect and be mindful not to underestimate its offensive capability.

The effects of pepper spray can be severe - including temporary blindness of the target which lasts 1530 minutes. Moreover, It can cause a burning sensation of the skin which lasts about 45 to 60 minutes long.
