Product Overview

  • ABS-GF is a glass fibre reinforced ABS filament developed by Bambu Lab.
  • Compared with standard ABS, it offers improved strength, stiffness, heat resistance, and dimensional stability (less warping/deformation) thanks to the glass fibre reinforcement.
  • Offers a matte finish with a subtle micro-gloss (blurs layer lines) owing to the glass fibres.
  • Suited for both mechanical/functional parts (load-bearing, high temperature) and decorative objects (good finish + vibrant colours) thanks to its properties.

Key Specifications

  • Filament diameter: 1.75 mm.
  • Spool net filament weight: 1 kg.
  • Density: ~ 1.08 g/cm³.
  • Vicat softening temperature: ~ 103 °C.
  • Heat deflection temperature (0.45 MPa): ~ 99 °C.
  • Melting temperature: ~ 202 °C.
  • Recommended printing nozzle temperature: ~ 240-280 °C.
  • Recommended bed temperature: ~ 80-100 °C.
  • Printing speed: typically < 180 mm/s for best results (enclosure strongly recommended).

Features & Benefits

  • High strength & stiffness: The glass fibre reinforcement gives notably higher bending modulus and bending strength compared to standard ABS.
  • Improved dimensional stability: Less warping and deformation, making it more reliable for functional parts and assemblies.
  • Durability & water-resistance: Retains ABS benefits (water resistance, wear resistance) plus the enhanced mechanical traits.
  • Matte aesthetic finish: The glass fibre gives a smooth surface, concealing layer lines and giving parts a nice look.
  • High temperature capability: With heat deflection near ~99 °C, it's more viable for higher temp applications than regular ABS.

Available Colours

ABS-GF is available in the following colours:

  • White (41100)
  • Grey (41102)
  • Orange (41300)
  • Red (41200)
  • Blue (41600)
  • Black (41101)

Printing Considerations & Tips

  • Use an enclosed print chamber (recommended) to reduce warping and ensure stable temperature.
  • Dry filament before use (e.g., 80 °C for ~8 hours) to reduce moisture-related defects such as poor layer adhesion.
  • Bed surface prep: use a high temp plate, textured or smooth PEI, with adhesive (glue) recommended.
  • Because of the glass fibres, use a hardened steel nozzle (or nozzle compatible with abrasive filaments) to manage wear.
  • Printing speed: although capable of relatively high speed, to maintain part quality < 180 mm/s is advised.
  • The matte finish is a benefit, but you may still need to post-process (sanding, sealing) depending on final application.

Ideally Used For

  • Users printing functional or mechanical components that require higher stiffness or temperature resistance.
  • Users needing aesthetic parts with good finish, where layer lines are less visible but material strength matters.
  • Users working with the Bambu Lab ecosystem (spools, RFID recognition, compatibility with AMS) for ease of use.

Please Note:

  • Like many ABS and fibre-reinforced materials, increased warp risk remains: proper bed adhesion, enclosure, and drying are important.
  • Fumes: ABS and reinforced ABS can produce stronger odour during printing—ensure good ventilation
  • Glass fibre content makes the filament more abrasive: Nozzles wear faster unless using hardened or wear-resistant tooling.
  • Cost may be higher than standard ABS; spool management (drying, storage) is more critical due to fibre reinforcement.
