Made in South Africa for a brief period between 1976 and 1982, Bartholomina Dolls have become a favourite among serious collectors. They came in kit form and were made in limited numbers. (Some 300 & others 500 - after which the moulds were destroyed.)
In 1976 Carolyn McSweeney(Metcalfe) started a small family business, Bartholomina Dolls.
Bartholomina Dolls were made from earthenware by Carolyn and her sister Jenny Ferreira (Metcalfe). Their neice made 3 of the dolls in this series. A further series of 5 name dolls plus a doll to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the 1820 settlers in Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape, followed.
This doll is the number 12 doll, 59/300, and has mid brown hair. Includes instructions and patterns for clothing, fabric and stuffing for body, shoes and accessories where applicable. In excellent condition. (Finished doll will be approximately 45cm.)
