Hi there!
Have a look at this very cool single cutaway Bass guitar!
I made it myself from scratch. The specs are:
Body: Burnt Pine (literally roasted)
Neck: Meranti ( with non-adjustable trussrod )
Fretboard: Covered with layer of Poly Resin. ( stops strings from eating the wood )
Bridge: Nice thick aluminium Saddle resting on a Oregon Pine Board.
Pickups: Piezo Transducers fitted to the underside of the Oregon Pine Board.
Tuners: Standard sealed bass tuners.
I saw the design on the internet and wanted to have something similar.
I Have tested it and used it a couple of times. It works well. It has a nice tone to it that is not the same as a bass guitar with magnetic pickups. It has it's own unique voice.
I used a single 250K volume pot on it. It has no tone control, but turning down the volume drops some of the very high frequencies and makes it sound mellower. You can run it directly into your bass amp or into any bass pedals you may have.
The neck is quite wide and flat. You get used to it. The neck was so well reinforced that the tention of the 4 bass strings allmost did not want to bend it even the slightest bit. I thinned down the neck somewhat for just a little bit of relief.
The fretboard has some position markers that i made. They can help you get arount a fretless neck if you have not used one before.
The little patch on the face of the guitar was where i wanted to use a three position switch that just did not work out. I patched the hole with another piece of wood. Still looks cool though.
Here it is:
