Batch of over 130 Vintage 1950s-1980s Plastic Lucky Packet / Cracker Jack Charms with Loops

ON AUCTION IS A BATCH WITH OVER 130 VINTAGE 1950s TO 1980S PLASTIC LUCKY PACKET / CRACKER JACK CHARMS WITH SMALL INTEGRATED MOLDED LOOPS.

THESE VINTAGE PLASTIC CHARMS WITH LOOPS WERE FOUND IN LUCKY PACKETS (LUCKY BAGS), GUMBALL MACHINES, OR AS CEREAL PRIZES FROM THE 1950S1980S. THEY ARE SMALL, LIGHTWEIGHT CHARMS MADE FROM MOLDED PLASTIC. FEATURING A SMALL LOOP FOR ATTACHING TO BRACELETS OR NECKLACES, THEY DEPICT THEMES LIKE ANIMALS, EVERYDAY OBJECTS, AND LUCKY SYMBOLS.

These charms were popular "treasures" in lucky packets, which were inexpensive grab bags filled with sweets and small toys, particularly popular in the mid-20th century.

Early charms (1950s-60s) were sometimes made of celluloid, while later ones were made of softer, injection-molded plastic. They often came in bright, solid colors or sometimes semi-translucent material.

COMMON DESIGNS INCLUDED MINIATURE ANIMALS, MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, HOUSEHOLD ITEMS (LIKE IRONS OR KEYS), AND "LUCKY" SYMBOLS SUCH AS HORSESHOES, FOUR-LEAF CLOVERS, AND HEARTS.

THE BUILT-IN LOOP ALLOWED CHILDREN TO COLLECT THEM AND ATTACH THEM TO CHARM BRACELETS OR CHAINS, MAKING THEM A WEARABLE COLLECTING TREND.

THEY WERE AT THEIR PEAK IN THE 1960S AND 1970S, FREQUENTLY FOUND IN PENNY-ARCADE GUMBALL MACHINES AND AS PRIZES IN CRACKER BOXES.

TODAY, THESE ARE CONSIDERED NOSTALGIC COLLECTABLES.

SIZE AROUND 10-20MM WIDE AND 20-30MM HIGH

CONDITION: IN GOOD CONDITION.

CRACKER JACK CHARMS:
Cracker Jack charms with loops are highly collectible miniature prizes that were included in snack boxes primarily from the 1920s through the 1960s. These charms, often made of celluloid are famous for their loops, which allowed children to string them onto necklaces, bracelets, or safety pins.
Cracker Jack charms with loops are highly collectible miniature prizes that were included in snack boxes primarily from the 1920s through the 1960s.
Early Prizes (19121920s): Cracker Jack began including a "prize in every box" in 1912. Early prizes included paper fortunes, baseball cards, and metal miniatures.
The Golden Era (1930s1950s): This period saw the height of the charm craze. Many charms with loops were produced in Japan (until 1937) and later designed by Carey Cloud starting in 1938.
Modern Shift: By the late 1960s and 1970s, the physical toys were gradually replaced by paper prizes, stickers, and temporary tattoos. In 2016, physical prizes were largely discontinued in favour of digital codes for mobile games.
1980s "Bell Clip" Charms: These are also sought after, but featured a larger "clip" loop accompanied by small colorful bells.
