My electric gate does not run on mains and is entirely dependent on the solar panel to keep the battery charged. In order to monitor the system, I fitted a panel voltmeter (permanently) to the gate control box. Now IÃÂÃÂ can easily see the state of charge during the day and also at night. It draws so little current that it is perfect to have it on 24/7 without draining the battery.
