Fifty years ago 'The Few' flew their Hurricanes and Spitfires against the might of the luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain.
Between June and October 1940, a total of 4387 Royal Air Force, Fleet Air Arm and Allied aircrew took to the air to repel the enemy.
Most were young men. Many went into battle with just a few hours flying experience, knowing that their life expectancy could be measured in days, weeks, if they were lucky.
