ON AUCTION IS A RARELY SEEN VINTAGE BAUSCHER WEIDEN BAVARIA GERMANY PORCELAIN TEAPOT WITH A REMOVABLE WMF (Würtemburgische Machin Fabrik) SILVERPLATED INSULATOR. BASICLY A VINTAGE THERMOS.
 
BEAUTIFUL, ELEGANT THERMAL TEAPOT IN WHITE HARD-PASTE PORCELAIN GLAZED WITH THIRD-FIRE FIRING, COVERED WITH A CHROME METAL SHELL WITH A HOOK CLOSURE.
 
SIGNED UNDER THE BASE OF THE TEAPOT WITH THE BAUSCHER WEIDEN MARK, "BAVARIA, GERMANY", WHICH AS FAR AS I COULD DETERMINE DATES FROM ANYWARE BETWEEN 1920 AND 1980. STAMPED ON INSULATOR WITH WMF PLACED IN AN EMPTY ARCH - A
MARK USED BETWEEN 1935 AND 1965. THIS GIVES A NARROWER TIMELINE FOR THE PRODUCTION OF THIS THEMAL TEAPOT AND GIVES A DATE FROM BETWEEN 1935 AND 1965.
 
THIS TYPE OF OBJECT IS VERY RARE AND SOUGHT AFTER IN THE COLLECTORS' MARKET, BEING THE FIRST, AS WE WOULD SAY TODAY, "THERMOS" MADE IN THE PAST.
 
FROM AN INTERNET SEARCH, WE FIND THAT TEAPOTS SIMILAR TO OURS, IN DECO STYLE, SELL FOR HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS EACH.
 
In 1881, the brothers August and Conrad Bauscher began producing table porcelain in Weiden with 70 employees. From the beginning, they specialized in robust, functional and durable products for the hotel and restaurant industry. From 1887, all ships of the North German Lloyd were equipped with Bauscher porcelain. Over 1,200 employees now produce for such illustrious clients as Auerbachs Keller in Leipzig and Waldorf Astoria in New York. Bausch accounts for 98% of all hotel porcelain imports into the United States.

BAUSCHER WEIDEN (1881-present):
The Gebrüder Bauscher Porzellan - Fabrik am Bahnhof Weiden (Bayern) was established in 1881 by August and Conrad Bauscher. They started with 70 employees. The business specialized in hotel porcelain.
They soon gained a contract to provide all Norddeutsche Lloyd ships with their porcelain.
In 1907 the factory transferred into a limited liability company and in 1911 into a joint stock company. Conrad Bauscher died in 1910 and his brother August Bauscher died in 1917.
In 1918 Weiden Gebr. Bauscher porcelain factory was integrated into the Strupp group. In late 1920s Weiden Gebr. Bauscher porcelain factory became part of Lorenz Hutschenreuther AG.
In 1930s the factory dominated hotel porcelain sector in USA but in 1938 it lost access to this market. It was partially destroyed by bombs in 1945. First postwar porcelain pieces were produced in July 1945.
In 1998 Bauscher became one of three brands operated by BHS tabletop AG in Selb (entity created after the restructuring of Lorenz Hutschenreuther AG).
 
MARK ON INSULATOR: WMF PLACED IN AN EMPTY ARCH ON INSULATOR
MARK USED BETWEEN 1935 AND 1965
MARKINGS: A variety of marks have been used during their 150 years of production.  The well known 'ostrich' mark originates from the German word for ostrich, 'Der Strauss' after Daniel Straub, one of the founders. The 'G' in the mark stands for the town of Geislingen, on the River Fils and near Ulm in Baden-Württemburg.
FROM 1920, WMF INTRODUCED THE NEW SMALL MARK FOR SILVER-PLATED ITEMS, CONTAINING A SPECIAL 2D COMBINATION OF THREE LETTERS, "W", "M", AND "F", PLACED IN A RECTANGLE (1920-1930). THE SAME 2D COMBINATION OF THESE THREE LETTERS, PLACED IN A PARTLY DASHED ARCH, WAS TURNED TO ACCOUNT AS THE MAIN MARK FOR SILVER-PLATED ITEMS FOR NEXT FIVE YEARS (1930-1935). FINALLY, THE SAME 2D COMBINATION OF THREE LETTERS, "W"", "M", AND "F", BUT PLACED IN AN "EMPTY" ARCH, WAS USED IN 1935-1965. This simple version of this WMF mark without any arch was registered in 1965.

HISTORY: WMF (Würtemburgische Machin Fabrik) (1853-current)
WMF (originally Würtemburgische Machin Fabrik AG), was originally founded in 1853 in Geislingen Germany.  In 1880 there was an amalgamation of Straub & Sohn and A Ritter & Co. and the factory became famous for domestic and art metalware with an appropriate change of name to Würtemburgische Metallwaren Fabrik AG.  After 170 years the company is still in business and is world famous for their high quality silverware.
