We at the Potchefstroom Lions Club joined the Fight against Rhino poaching and Rhino Killings!!

at just R25, you Can make a difference!!!

When you buy this bracelet, you are contributing to a fund that has as it's core objective, the conservation of Rhinos in South Africa.

Latest figures by the conservation group, WWF International, have revealed that killing of rhinos is on rise in the country. The figures have unveiled that nearly 200 rhinos were killed in South Africa in the first half of 2011. Most of these rhinos were slaughtered in the world-famous Kruger National Park.

According to the parks department, South Africa has a population of about 19,400 white rhinos and 1,678 black rhinos out of which, 12,000 white rhinos live in the Kruger National Park. It has been predicted that Rhino poaching is propelled by the rise in demand for horns in Asia.

Figures have revealed that last year, 333 rhinos were killed in South Africa, which has the world’s largest population of rhinos. Nearly 70% of all rhinos are found South Africa. The WWF International has shown distress over the rise in the number of poaching cases related to rhinos and has predicted that killing of rhinos by poachers may exceed the records of 2010.

This year, about 123 people were arrested for poaching. The WWF International has found that these rhinos are South Africa and used in traditional medicine as an aphrodisiac in East Asia and as dagger handles in Yemen and Oman.
