The Succotash Runner Bean is a rare variety originally grown by the Narragansett Indian tribe in Rhode Island. The bean has a purple-coloured skin and its shape looks almost like a corn kernel. According to culinary history, the word "succotash" is derived from the Narragansett Indian word "msickquatash" which means "boiled corn kernels".
