Afghan hand wovenChoubi kilim

Size : 146 x 97cm

Origin: Afghanistan

Type: Reversible ( youcan use both sides)

This fine qualitymulti colored Kilim is coming from City of Maimana, Afghanistan.

Weavers are alwaystrying to change color combinations every 2 to 3 years and beside usingtraditional designs they are trying to feature some new designs.

The Term Kilim is used to describe a pileless flat rugmade for different use

Kilims are generally woven with the slitweavetechnique. The slit refers to the gap left between two blocks of color.

It is created by returning the weft around the lastwarp in a color area, and the weft of the adjacent color is later returnedaround the adjacent warp.

Weavers pack the weft tightly to completely cover thewarp and often favor diagonal patterns so as to avoid weakening the structureof the rug with vertical slits. It produces bold, sharp patterns that weaversenjoy creating with more freedom

allowed than a plainweave. This is also why kilims areso closely associated with geometrical designs even though there are are kilimswith floral designs as well.
