George Boys was a South African abstract painter. Boys’s bright, energetic paintings were influenced by Wassily Kandinsky and Japanese calligraphy.  Born in Johannesburg, South Africa on September 22, 1930, Boys received his formal training at the Witwatersrand Technical Art School in Johannesburg. At the age of 32, he held his first exhibition at Guenther Gallery. The artist would go on to represent South Africa at the Sáo Paulo Biennale in 1965 and at the Athens Art Festival in 1976. Emigrating to New Zealand in 1996, he died on March 4, 2014 in New Plymouth, New Zealand.
