Beautiful ROCK and MINERAL Collection in Wooden Display Cabinet
A WONDERFUL ROCK AND MINERAL COLLECTION IN A BEAUTIFUL WOODEN DISPLAY CABINET. IN THIS BOX NAMES ARE INDICATED ON FRONT PANELS. THEY INCLUDE MALACHITE; CHALCOPYRITE; BORNITE; BIOTITE; TALC; CHALCOCITE; SPHAEROCOBALTITE; QUARTZ; CUPRITE; FLUORITE; AZURITE AND ANHYDRITE. MOST OF THESE MINERALS ARE INTERESTINGLY COPPER ORES AND CONTAIN COPPER IN ITS CHEMICAL STRUCTURE.
SOME INTERESTING ROCKS IN THIS COLLECTION ARE:
CALCOPYRITE: This Chalcopyrite Chunk is in their rough & natural state and have a golden yellow color. Chalcopyrite is composed of Copper Iron Sulfide, an ore of Copper, and gets its coloring from oxidation of the crystals surface that often resembles gold and is sometimes referred to as "Fool's Gold". The mineral also contains traces of elements of gold and nickel which can be recovered in a refinery.
MALACHITE: Malachite is a bright green copper carbonate hydroxide mineral contain 57.48% Cu in the purest form. One of malachites most stand-out qualities is its deep green colour. The stone is known for its banded pattern in various shades of green. Unlike most gemstones, malachite only comes in one colour and thats green. It, however, can vary in shade from light to dark, almost black. The beauty of it has been an object of admiration since the days of Cleopatra, and we still wear Malachite jewelry to this day. Malachite was mined before emerald for its beauty. Evidence of malachite mining has been found near the Isthmus of Suez and the Sinai as early as 4000 BC. Archaeologists have discovered that emerald, on the other hand, was mined almost 2000 years later with the first mines being identified to be from around 2000 BC. Malachite is a rare gemstone because its original source has essentially run dry. Historically, the Ural Mountains in Russia were home to some of the largest deposits, but extensive mining has gravely depleted this source over time. Only a few regions of the world are home to this stone, limiting supply and increasing the overall value. The largest source of the gem is in Africa, specifically the Democratic Republic of Congo. Additionally, small deposits exist in Australia, Arizona, and France. Malachite also forms deep underground, making labor around sourcing more expensive. The difficulty in accessing it adds to the price. Malachite has rings known as the peacocks eye. The amount and visibility of these rings will increase the gems value. Essentially, the larger the malachite gemstone, the more prominent the rings, and the higher the price.
BORNITE: Bornite is an important copper ore mineral. It contains a significant percentage of copper (typically around 63.3% copper by weight), making it a valuable source of copper. Also known as peacock ore its colours often resemble the peacocks feathers.
BIOTITE: Biotite is also called Black Mica and is interestingly a radioactive mineral. Biotite is used extensively to determine the ages of rocks, by either potassium-argon dating or argon-argon dating. Since argon escapes readily from the biotite crystal structure at high temperatures, these methods may provide minimum ages for many rocks.
SPHEROCOBALTITE: Spherocobaltite is a cobalt carbonate mineral with chemical composition CoCO. In its pure form, it is typically a rose-red color, but impure specimens can be shades of pink to pale brown. Spherocobaltite is a very rare. Current sources are Morocco, Spain, and Congo (Zaire).
CUPRITE: Cuprite is a red oxide mineral (Cu2O) that is an important ore of copper. Faceted cuprite, no matter how large or small, is prized for its appearance--deep garnet coloring and higher brilliance than a diamond--thus making it a most collectible gem.
AZURITE: Azurite is a beautiful soft, deep-blue copper mineral produced by weathering of copper ore deposits. Azurite is a rare and an immensely valuable gemstone which exists in limited volume in the world. There are only a few confine areas in the world from where azurite gemstone is find.
