Hand carved Tikar Mask
This African Mask from the Tikar tribe of the Cameroon
is in a lovely well made box frame
Mask is made out of black wood and has brass and bronze coins as decoration
The mask is very well made and features finely detailed brass embellishment
to the eyes and forehead. . Tikar masks, with their ritual scarification's and formalized hair styles, are some of the most desirable in African art.

African masks are usually associated with a specific ceremony or society
to preserve traditional culture
Masks of this type are used during agricultural festivities, such as during harvest ceremonies
The basic concept of these rituals was the belief that the soil is sacred,
because it belonged to the ancestors
