This ornate piece is crafted in 10ct yellow gold and features an unusual gemstone - spodumene - a bright, sparkling natural gemstone, oval faceted, measuring 8,7mm long x 6,8mm wide, held on extended claws a splendid 6,5mm above the finger. Spodumene is from the Green word "spodumenos" which means "burnt to ashes". It often occurs in a beautiful silver colour. This particular stone is a gentle pink (it looks like morganite) and pleochroic, meaning that it absorbs different waves of light, giving off the appearance of more than one colour. In this instance, the pinkish stone is classified as "kunzite" spodumene.
Openwork beneath the central solitaire allows light through the gemstone, maximising sparkle and emphasising the faceting. Flanking the solitaire are 3 x small, round cut spodumene claw set within a demarcated semi circle, bracketing the central stone. Running down the shoulders of the piece are 2 x rows of 3 small, round cut spodumene in a 'v' shape, accentuating the fact that the narrow shank widens at the shoulders to support the 8,7mm wide x 16,2mm long ring head. The piece weighs a good 2,7 grams and bears both the hallmark for 10K and 375 for 9ct gold, meaning the jeweller has made use of both in his setting. It is also hallmarked with the English Birmingham assay and bears a 'limited edition' jeweller number. A very pretty and unusual collectable piece of English jewellery.
