Beautifull Mike Elliott Original Painting -
Part of his Collection "Respect for an Ancient Culture"
Mike Elliott was born in London (England) in 1949 and came to South Africa in 1974 which became his home for 26 years. The focus of his interest has been with Africa's oldest cultures, particularly Bushmen of the Kalahari and Namibia with whom he interacted for 13 years. His paintings have always been more than a merely visual creation. He has embodied in his paintings deeper emotions and his feelings for a people deserving greater respect from the modern world.
Mike Elliott stated: "Old world cultures such as ... and the Bushmen are perceived by modern society as "primitive". An arrogant modern society blind to the social strengths of social structures that have survived for many thousands of years. Perhaps here lie clues to help us understand the underlying causes of our many modern social disorders."
Completely self taught and not conditioned by current academic thinking, he provides a refreshingly different perspective on the impact of modern technological society on traditional cultures.
His paintings, executed in a subtle fusion of Watercolour and Pencil, are scattered amongst 27 countries throughout the world. They may be found in private and corporate collections, which include First National Bank (Corporate HQ), Mercedes, Siemens, South African Embassies, Mannesmann Demag, Wits University, the University of Cape Town and with many respected art lover individuals in North America, Europe and South Africa.
Mike Elliott Emigrated from South Africa in 2000 after living here for 26 years. Unfortunately his works after this date has become expensive due to the weakness of the Rand against the stronger $ and Euro where his paintings fetch between R20 000.00 and R50 000.00 per painting
