This early wooden pipe or tobacco box, from around the 1940's, has been intricately carved and sanded from a single piece of wood into a rectangular shape with eight shaped sides. The centre has been perfectly hollowed out to create the box. There are no joints, nails or glue. The lid, also from a single piece of wood, has been delicately carved to reveal a wonderful picture of a pipe, flowers and leaves all in relief. The lid fits firmly onto the box to create an airtight fitting. This attractive box, with a lovely grain in the wood, must have taken hours to make and been a labour of love. It measures 20.5cm x 10.7cm, stands 8cm high and weighs 470g.
