BEETROOT DETROIT DARK RED SEEDS:


CULTIVAR:  Detroit Dark Red  - An Heirloom variety


PLANTING SEASON:  all year, this heirloom variety is more suited to the warmer season.  Try our Crimson Globe for the cool season production.  Generally the best planting season for beetroot is:  February to April & August to October.


DAYS TO HARVEST:  60 - 80


GERMINATION TIME:  7 - 14 days


CULTIVATION:  Beetroot Detroit Dark Red seeds grow in most soils, except very acidic.  It needs soil with good drainage.  It is an excellent crop to follow after lettuce or cabbage.  Plants are "half-hardy" to frost. 


SOWING DEPTH:  1 - 2 cm


SPACING: 15 cm in rows and 15 cm between rows


Beetroot is a fantastic super food.  Home grown beetroot, freshly cooked straight out the garden has amazing flavour, definitely worth the home garden's effort!  The leaves are also edible and delicious, steam, or saute with a little butter!  Each listing is weighed out to about 2 grams.
