Listening Korean for Beginners, published by the National Institute of the Korean Language and the International Korean Language Foundation as part of Hollyms Alive Korean Language Series, is a beginner-level textbook specifically designed to develop one of the most challenging aspects of Korean-language acquisition: listening comprehension. Accompanied by audio recordings (originally issued on CD and now available as downloadable MP3 files), the book seeks to immerse learners in authentic spoken Korean through carefully graded listening activities and realistic conversational situations, helping students become accustomed to the sounds, rhythms, and patterns of everyday Korean speech. Intended especially for learners who have limited opportunities to interact with native speakers, it provides structured exposure to real-life dialogues while reinforcing vocabulary, grammar, and communicative functions encountered in other areas of language study. The text is organized so that it can be used independently or in conjunction with the companion volumes Reading Korean for Beginners, Writing Korean for Beginners, and Speaking Korean for Beginners, creating an integrated four-skills programme that promotes balanced language development. At 197 pages, the book combines practical listening exercises with communicative objectives, aiming to build both conscious understanding and intuitive familiarity with spoken Korean. Developed under the auspices of South Koreas national language authority, it reflects contemporary principles of Korean-language pedagogy and is designed to help beginning learners gain confidence in understanding natural Korean conversations and spoken interactions encountered in everyday life.
