Light:
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Too much direct sun can crisp the edges of the leaves, but too little will dull the vibrant colouring. A spot near a south- or east-facing window (out of the sun's path) works beautifully.
💧 Water:
Begonias like consistent moisture, but they really don't like wet feet. Water when the top 23cm of soil feels dry, and always empty saucers after watering. They're sensitive to overwatering, so err on the side of slightly dry if unsure.
🌡 Humidity & Temperature:
This one loves humidity. A bathroom with decent light, or placing it near a humidifier, will do wonders. You can also mist occasionally or use a pebble tray. Keep above 15°Ccold draughts and winter chills can cause leaf drop.
🪴 Potting mix:
Use a loose, well-draining mix. You can make your own using Barks Unlimited Potting Soil mixed with Perlite to boost drainage. For even better structure, add a few Bark Chips.
🌱 Feeding:
Feed once a month during spring and summer with a balanced organic fertiliser. Too much feed can cause leaf burn, so keep it light.
🛡 Pests:
Keep an eye out for mealybugs and spider mites, especially in dry conditions. If needed, wipe the leaves gently and use an insecticidal spray.
Repotting & pruning:
Repot every 12 years or when roots fill the pot. Choose a shallow, wide pot over a deep one to avoid soggy roots. Pinch back any leggy growth to keep the shape neat and encourage new leaves.
