Behringer Powerplay Pro-XL HA4700 4 Channel Headphones Amplifier in Stagg 2U ABS Road Case, with 1U steel blank panel, power cable (IEC to SA 3 pin) and hard-copy manual.

Applications: This device is great for quiet band practices with electronic drums, recording sessions, outdoor movies without disturbing the neighbours etc.

Technical description:

• This device takes mono, stereo or dual mono signals from balanced or unbalanced analogue audio outputs and drives four sets of headphones, each with independent 2 band EQ and volume control - the EQ is especially useful when using different models of headphones.
• You can also do more sophisticated individual mixes for each of the four sets, using dual mono monitor mixes at the main inputs, or using the main input blended with the four front-panel unbalanced stereo aux inputs (see photos).
• You can actually drive up to 12 pairs of headphones (eight extra outputs on the back panel) but you must understand these are wired in parallel with the four front-panel headphones outputs.  This means you have four groups of up to three listeners each, with independent control for each group only, not independent control for each pair of headphones). If you do this you must also understand how the impedances of the different headphones combine and how they compare to the specified minimum impedance per group.
• The fourth output has a slight power supply hum because it is immediately adjacent to the power supply transformer and Behringer did not shield the circuitry adequately.  Note this is a design shortcoming of the model, not a fault with my specific unit.  I have checked on other HA-4700 units; they have the same issue.  Although not perfect, I have never found it to be really distracting in practical use.  If you are technically minded you might even be able to improve the design with a modification.

Condition:

• Headphone amp: In full working order; very good condition as shown. It has been stored in its closed case for most of its life, so well protected.
• Case: Light rust on the 1U blank panel (under paint) and on some of the metal hardware on the case (see photos).

Background/reason for selling:

I acquired this when playing in a band doing quiet rehearsals with electronic drums.  Later I had a business doing audio work, where I used it occasionally.  I shut down the business in 2017 and sold most of my gear, but this is one of the items I kept for possible home recording projects.  Since those days I only used it once in many years (for an outdoor movie night during COVID, to comply with lockdown regulations without disturbing the neighbours - worked really well!).  So now it is time to sell it as I am not using it enough and I do not really have space to store it.
