Elizabeth Eybers (1915-2007) was an influential and important Afrikaans poet. She was the first woman to win a Hertzog prize in 1943 for her collections Die Stil Avontuur and the current Belydenis in die Skemering - she won the prize again in 1971 for Onderdak.
Regarded as the first volume of poetry to be published in Afrikaans by a woman, only preceded by Sarah Goldblatt who published a collection of children's poems in 1920.
