During World War 2, the company was awarded contracts to supply machinist tools to the United States military and the British Purchasing Commisssion.
In 1990, the company was renamed General Tools in order to reflect that is was making and selling measuring tools as well as hardware. The company acquired Mannix Instruments in 2006 and a new name General Tools & Instruments LLC has reflected that.
