This is a little story about an extinct creature called the Benchmade Panther
There were a number of knives made in the #400 series in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Benchmade was still in their first location in Clackamas Oregon, several years from moving to their Oregon city location.
It has a partially serrated clip blade of ATS-34 steel/SG2 .
It is a product of Japanese Powder Metallurgy made by the Takefu steel company.
Many knife aficionados say that SG stands for Super Gold, and it is considered by many to be one of the finest cutlery steals.
Benchmade discontinued the 400 series of knives several years ago. Even the term as SG2 is now obsolete and G3Si1 has replaced it.
This knifes blade has the trade mark Bali-Song - Benchmade's primary focus when it first got started was the Bali-Song®, or butterfly knife.
The butterfly logo is representative of their focus on and success in the world of butterfly knives
This is a great early Benchmade knife circa 1990 and would make a fine user knife or an excellent addition to a Benchmade collection.
