B4 You Buy a Desktop Filter
You Need to Understand How it works
to Realise that There is a Serious Design Flaw with These Units
*** This is Infomation for the Consumer - We are Not Selling Anything Here ***
How the Filter Works
All of these units are connected, at what appears to be the base on the supporting plate.
This base is actually the top of the filter because counter top filter units are made up of 2 x inverted filter housings installed on to a supporting plate. You can see this clearly on the single filter below
This filter is the right way up and water is fed from the top input down into the outer casing , through the filter media wall into the hollow center core and forced back up and out of the housing into the next unit and so on.
The water feeds in from the right hand side at the bottom (in the 2 stage picture ) and works itself through the media wall into the center core then down into the next filter, which is usually a carbon of some kind.
When there is a sediment filter in the first housing then this flaw is most apparent
Water always flows through the point of least resistance and in this case this housing will only ever fill half way as the water then enters the second filter housing and the incoming water pressure pushes the water into the base and all the way to the top where the water moves through the material then down and out of the unit.
In other words if you have a sediment filter in the first housing you will only ever get half the wear from it before you need to change it.
This does not happen with an under counter unit.
If you still want a counter top unit then ask your supplier when next that you replace the sediment filter to supply you with a combo filter instead.
I hope that this tip will assist you with your next purchase to make an informed decision
