Sarah Jordan (Jolie, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Girl: Interrupted) is a shallow and na¿¿ve American socialite living in London with her husband Henry Bauford (Linus Roache, Wings Of The Dove). In 1984 at a charity event, Sarah is shaken out of her insular existence by the presence of Nick Callahan (Clive Owen, Croupier, Gosford Park), a passionate relief worker who opens her eyes to the suffering of people in Ethiopia. This first encounter marks the beginning of Sarah's determined commitment to human relief work¿¿ and the beginning of a seemingly hopeless romance that takes place against the backdrop of some of the poorest and most dangerous places in the world. Initially, Nick is full of hostility towards Sarah, who he sees as a spoilt woman purely trying to clear her conscience. However, it is not long before Sarah proves she is a brave woman with true compassion. But just as sparks begin to fly between them, she must leave for London. Over the ensuing years, Sarah travels to Cambodia, Ethiopia and Chechnya but ultimately she decides to return to her young son and an unhappy marriage. But when Sarah receives notice that Chechen rebels have kidnapped Nick she sets out on a perilous journey to find and rescue him.
