Beyond: Two Souls for the PlayStation 3 is an interactive psychological action-thriller game that blurs the lines between a video game and a cinematic film. Developed by Quantic Dream, the game is heavily story-driven and features the likeness and voice acting of Hollywood actors Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe. 

Storyline

The narrative follows the life of Jodie Holmes from age eight into her adulthood, as she lives with a psychic link to an invisible, incorporeal entity named Aiden. The story is told in a non-linear fashion, jumping back and forth in time across 15 years of her life. Players experience a variety of scenarios, from Jodie's time as a child in a government lab undergoing psychic tests with scientist Nathan Dawkins (Willem Dafoe), to training as a CIA agent, and later, running from the agency. 

Jodie's actions and choices determine her fate and impact the story's outcome, which has up to 24 different ending scenes. 

Gameplay

The gameplay is an action-adventure game focusing on narrative and interaction, rather than complex combat mechanics. 

• Character Control: Players primarily control Jodie, exploring environments and interacting with objects marked by a white dot using the analog stick.
• Aiden Control: At almost any time, the player (or a second player in a two-player mode) can switch control to Aiden, who can move through walls and ceilings. Aiden can manipulate objects, possess people, or move items within a certain radius of Jodie.
• Interactive Cinema: The game features cinematic camera angles and an immersive, film-like experience. Action sequences and puzzles are handled through context-sensitive button prompts and motion-based controls (flicking the right analog stick). 

Visuals and Audio

The game was noted for pushing the technical capabilities of the PS3 hardware, featuring highly realistic facial animations and detailed environments due to extensive motion capture technology. The visuals were considered some of the best on the console at the time of its release in 2013.
