Bilder von unserem Missionsfelde in Süd- und Deutsch-Ost-Afrika. Zugleich Fortsetzung der Kratzensteinschen Geschichte der Berliner Mission für die Jahre 1893 bis 1901
Published by Berlin: Buchhandlung der Berliner evangelischen Missionsgesellschaft, 1902, hardcover, German language text, illustrated, index, 518 pages, ex central reference library book, condition: very good.
During the years documented in this volume, the Berlin Missionary Society (BMS) was significantly expanding its presence in East Africa while maintaining established fields in South Africa.
Following the Merensky Expedition in 1891, the BMS established a series of new stations in the Southern Highlands.
Key stations founded during this period include Mwakaleli (1893), Ikombe (1893), Bulongwa (1895), Tandala (1897), Kidugala (1898), and Lupembe (1899).
The BMS continued its long-standing work (dating back to 1834) in regions such as the Free State, Natal, and Transvaal.
In 1893, the Springfontein station was established as a ministry for labourers working on the expanding railway lines.
Missionary Philosophy: The work reflects the Pietist tradition of the BMS, focusing on conversion and "civilising" efforts within the colonial framework of the time.
