Bill Bates (Dad of Springbok Albie Bates) 1994 Original Oil Painting
THIS IS WONDERFUL ORIGINAL OIL ON CANVAS BY BILL BATES A SOUTH AFRICAN ARTIST AND FATHER OF THE MORE FAMOUS ALBIE BATES (1941-2021) WHO WAS A SPRINGBOK RUGBYPLAYER FROM 1969-1972. IT FEATURES A ROW OF LARGE EUCALYPTUS (BLOEKOM) TREES, A SMALL STREAM AND A GRAVEL ROAD WITH A LONELY DONKEY CART TRAVELLING IN THE DISTANCE.
IT IS A BEAUTIFUL DETAILED PAINTING. A MIXTURE OF REALISM AND SYMBOLISM IN ART. CLEARLY THIS PAINTING FOCUSES ON DEPICTING THE EXTERNAL WORLD ACCURATELY (TREES AND RIVER) BUT ALSO AIMS TO REPRESENT INTERNAL EXPERIENCES, EMOTIONS, AND IDEAS (LONELY CART ON DIRT ROAD NEXT TO LARGE FOREBODING TREES).
THE WIFE OF MY UNCLES BROTHER IS THE SISTER OF ALBIE BATES AND SHE GAVE THIS PAINTING TO GO ON AUCTION. ITS A BEATIFUL ARTWORK BY ONE OF SOUTH AFRICAS LESSER KNOWN ARTISTS AND AN ARTWORK BY AN ARTIST THAT YOU WONT SEE ON AUCTION AGAIN SOON.
SIZE: FRAME 84CM WIDE 69CM HIGH PAINTING 70CM WIDE 55CM HIGH
CONDITION: SOME CLEAR AGED WEAR TO WOODEN FRAME. IN GOOD VINTAGE CONDITION.
BILL BATES: Bill Bates was a very good but less well known artist from the twentieth century in South Africa. His son Albert Jacobus Bates (1941 2021) was a famous SA rugby player who played four Tests for South Africa between 1969 and 1972. Bates made his international debut against England at Twickenham in 1969 when he was still playing for the erstwhile Western Transvaal (now the Leopards), and later in his career he moved to the Blue Bulls, whom he captained to Currie Cup success in 1973.
