While "Candlelight" is the brand (now known as Candlelight Products, founded in 1972), these were often manufactured by Biltons Tableware in Staffordshire, England. Biltons was famous for producing this specific line of milk glass storage jars during the 70s and early 80s to compete with brands like Hornsea and Pyrex.
THE PATTERN: This specific floral design is officially known as "SPRING BOUQUET". It was one of their most popular exports and is now a staple for collectors of the "Retro/Cottagecore" aesthetic.
THE DESIGN: The "Flat Back" shape was a deliberate innovation in the 70s. As kitchens became more modern and "fitted," these were designed to sit flush against the new tiled splashbacks rather than taking up the middle of the counter.
THE MATERIAL: Though they look like ceramic, they are indeed Milk Glass (opaque glass). This was preferred for food storage at the time because it was non-porous and easier to keep "hygienically clean" compared to traditional earthenware.
