Class II Type B2 biological safety cabinets are used for experiments involving both biohazards and toxic volatile chemicals, including radioactive nuclides.
Their primary use is for applications that require complete 100% exhaust, as they have no air recirculation, and all air is filtered through a HEPA filter before being vented outside the lab.
This design protects personnel, product, and the environment from aerosols, chemicals, and radioactive materials. 
Biological Safety Cabinets Class II B2 Key uses and features
    • Protection from volatile chemicals: Unlike Class II A2 cabinets which recirculate air, B2 cabinets exhaust 100% of the air outside the lab, making them suitable for work with toxic chemicals that produce vapors.
    • Safe handling of biohazards and chemicals: They protect operators, samples, and the environment from both biohazards and toxic vapors.
    • Radioactive work: The total exhaust feature makes them safe for experiments involving radioactive substances, which could otherwise be drawn back into the room in other cabinet types.
    • No recirculation: The lack of recirculation is a key feature, meaning any air that passes over the work surface is immediately exhausted, ensuring a higher level of safety for both the user and the environment.
  • External exhaust: They require an external blower and exhaust system to function properly, as they are not a self-contained unit like other types of BSCs.
