The biographical sketch which follows is based on the in-depth and meticulous research carried out by the late Dr. Thelma Gutsche, well-known in South Africa for her historical biographies, and other works and especially for her biography of Lady Florence Phillips, entitled No Ordinary Woman, which won the CNA Literary Award. Dr. Gutsche had massed the material over a period of years with the expressed intention of writing José Dale Laces biography. Unfortunately death intervened before she could begin her task. The present writer acknowledges the deep debt of gratitude owed to Dr. Gutsche in the writing of this short memoir.

This is a fine piece of work, a lovely read, and put together with care. Very scarce too.
