This listing is for the Scottish Terrier lover, the Black and White Scotch (Whisky) lover and the advertising lover!
My research shows that Black & White is a blended scotch whisky that was first produced in London and founded by James Buchanan. They used for advertising a black scottish terrier and a white West Highland white terrier and this idea was the brainchild of James Buchanan during the 1890's according to the "Collins Pocket Reference".
There have been several mergers of this company involving both Dewar's Distillers Company and Guinness but the brand is now owned by Diageo. This particular item, I am told was used as an advertising piece. It is a ceramic piece, featuring the black scottish terrier and a white West Highland white terrier sitting on a a half moon shape. The back has an opening which allows the piece to be hung on a wall. There is some wear and tear to the paint, and one or two paint chips, but no apparent breakages. It is a wonderful old piece used in advertising. It is very sturdy. The base measures 27 cm at its widest point, and the piece stands approximately 21 cm tall.
