This beautiful and highly sought after variety of bamboo will compliment any garden, large pot or indoor garden feature. The young culms emerge green, and turn a polished black colour once mature. This is a medium-sized variety that grows to approx 5m tall depending on climatic conditions.

This variety is a running type, and can become invasive if not curbed by a barrier when planting.

Young plants (1-3 stems) – est 8 months old, 20-30cm tall are available at present. Due to the high price of importing this variety, it is advisable to purchase small plants and grow them out yourself as large plants easily retail for up to R300 ea…

***Cold and frost tolerant***

Well rooted, individual semi mature plants are being sold here.

Plants are trimmed shorter (20-30cm), roots are carefully wrapped in moist materials, then plants are packaged in boxes and sealed. They can remain in these boxes for 3 weeks and still survive. Bamboo is an extremely tough plant.

New shoots can be expected within 2 weeks after arrival. If possible, plants should be planted into black nursery bags or plastic pots and placed in full shade after arrival, for at least 2 weeks before being planted into their new positions within the garden. This is to minimize the shock of transport, and to speed up the production of new shoots.

Bamboo absorbs 3x more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than trees, produces 3x more oxygen than trees and grow a lot faster. Birds love bamboo, pests leave them alone.

Bamboo plants can be planted in full shade to full sun, where watering could range from weekly to fortnightly.

Bamboo leaves are more nutritious than lucerne, which make them ideal to feed to worms (worm farms for vermiculture), chickens, livestock and even fish.

Note on delivery - Pls allow up to 3 weeks for delivery, as ideal weather conditions are required when packaging plants. Overnight postage option refers to the TYPE of shipping option, not time between purchase and being shipped.
