Nan Turpin a self taught dressmaker/designer whose talent drew the elite of Kimberley to make outfits for their special occasions created a collection of dolls as a hobby.
She dressed 620 dolls of which 159 were 18 inch dolls and 461 Barbie and lookalikes.
Nans creativeness flourished as ideas kept flowing and soon the couturiers and doll collectors visiting her brought off cuts of expensive materials and trimmings. Though the collection was never made public, those who visited Nan in her home raved about the incredible talent she had. Many copied her styles for their clients.
No two styles or fabrics are alike in the collection.
Each doll comes with a certificate of authenticity and in some cases the outfit bears a designer label. .
Barbies have been identified where possible by the holes in their feet and markings if visible. Some Barbies have wigs. Barbies have moving heads and waists, if not it has been stated. Each Barbie and lookalike doll has a special patented stand especially manufactured for Nan Turpin.
Nan Turpin designed the hair dos, handbags, jewelry, earrings, gloves and outfit and it stated what each doll has.
