Roses are not difficult to grow from seed, if you do it right. If you just put a lot of seeds in a pot of soil, water it, and wait, you'll likely be disappointed.
Growing roses from seed is certainly not the fastest method of propagating roses, but I can assure you it really is the most rewarding.
Stratification
Stratification is the process of placing seed in a controlled environment to simulate conditions for the purpose of overcoming dormancy and promoting germination.
What does that mean?
It means that we’re going to make the rose seed think it has endured a wet winter.
Then later, we’ll make it think spring has come.
Sometimes seeds can be pretty gullible and sometimes NOT.
Why do we stratify seeds?
Answer: Dormancy.
Inside many types of seeds, there are certain compounds that inhibit their ability to immediately germinate.
Roses definitely fall in that category.
So, to reap the benefits of our hybridization, we will trick those silly seeds!

Preparation for Germination
1. Soil-less Potting Mix
A good ratio would be 50% peat:50% perlite (the same thing you used for stratification)
2. Seedling Flat
Anything with holes for drainage will do. Well, it needs to hold soil at least an inch deep
3. Labels
Be sure to label.
4. Fill your seedling flat with potting medium
5. Moisten with water
6. Plant your seeds approximately one inch apart at a depth of ½ inch
7. Cover with potting medium
8. Place in warm, lighted environment

Flower seeds are a live organism. Their germination depends on many factors including heat, cooling, sun, shade, moisture, time of sowing, etc. None of these things I can control so I can not be held responsible for them.
