Boer War - Early 'Kaffrarian Rifles' Helmet Plate

This large, original, very scarce helmet plate was worn prior to 1899 by the 'Kaffrarian Rifles'. The white metal badge, with some blackening to the front, has some damage to the top, where the Victorian crown is missing or was removed, otherwise it is in good condition. The two threaded lugs, with original nuts, are intact. It has lovely detail, with a lion in relief in the centre and the motto 'NUNC ANIMUS' meaning 'NOW WITH COURAGE' underneath. It measures 6.4cm x 6.4cm.
